For some reason, it wasn't until I became an author that I became interested in collecting signed books. Maybe it's the personal connection I feel to the author, even if I wasn't actually there when they signed. But most of mine, really, were signed specifically for me and those will be the books I cherish forever.
I've met these authors or, at least, chatted with them online. They may not all be uber-famous or NYT bestsellers, but I have a personal connection to them. And having their book signed by them proves it...and something I can hang onto forever.
If you're building a collection of signed books, I invite you to check out all the ones still up for bid in the Indie Authors Relief Fund. You never which of these authors may eventually become an uber-famous bestseller!
Wow. That is quite the collection of signed books. I had never really thought about getting books signed until I went to a conference where the keynote speakers also signed books. I missed Tamora Pierce's signing cause she did it so late the one night, but she signed my book the next day after sitting next to me during a roundtable discussion. Fun times.
ReplyDeleteNow I have a few more signed books, including Promise. ;-)
Hi, Dawn! I think once you get one, you feel the need for more. Kind of like a drug, I guess. As they say, there could be worse addictions.
ReplyDeleteKristie, I love collecting signed books, too! I have a quite a few since I've pushed myself into the path of writing careerdom. Fun, fun, fun!!!

It is a drug! I can't quit, haha. I have all of Maria V Snyder's books signed (she is a local author..and is awesome by the way) and now I just want to keep collecting! And that would be the reason I bid on so many of the Relief fund books! It'a a huge added bonus that the money went to a great cause! I didn't win bids on all of the books I wanted, but such is life.
ReplyDeleteI'm excited for all of my signed books to come in the mail and I will be stalking my mailman in the meantime ;-)
Do you have any recommendations on how to continue collecting now that the relief fund auctions are closed? I have a feeling not many authors come to my area (Central PA).
